Hello, hello. This Friday I am here to tell you about Sonder. “What is Sonder?” you might ask. “That is a very good question” I might respond. Sonder is an online hub of young people’s creative work. The aim of Sonder is to provide a platform for creative writing, opinions and reviews. Anyone under the age of 30 is welcome to submit and have their work shared!
Sonder’s tagline is “ignited by Young Critics”. Why is that? This is because it began as a place to host reviews by young critics for the Dublin International Film Festival 2021. It has since expanded to become a space for young people to share all kinds of creative work as well.
What are we telling you all of this? Well, first of all, we love what Sonder is doing. It is truly brilliant to see platforms being provided for young peoples’ writing; read Benita Murinda on After Love or HERIFF team-member Jamie Waddell on Preparations to be Together for an Unknown Period of Time, both screened at DIFF 2021, and see for yourself.
And secondly, Her International Film Festival 2021 is partnering with Sonder. Obviously we can’t review our own picks. That is why we have partnered with Sonder to provide a platform for impartial reviews of the films being screened at this year’s festival.
Who better to review films made by young people than other young people? Who is going to understand the context more? Who is going to appreciate the nuance of the work showcased at this year’s festival? We can’t wait to see what they have to say, and will be updating you regularly when they start posting reviews.
Sonder is looking for regular contributors. If you’re reading this and thinking “hey, I think I’d like to do that” please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
