Hi there, my name is Philip Spillane, and I will be writing about the events and workshops happening throughout Her International Film Festival. I am an Irish writer and musician that has performed in Cork, Dublin and Lisbon. I have just completed a Masters in Creative Writing at University Limerick.
My creativity often overlaps with filmmaking, and it’s a growing interest. Often I edit poetry films and sound for my online event, The LockedOut Collection, which combines poetry, music and footage into a twenty-minute show. I have a habit of carrying a camera with me at all times, capturing wildlife or light effects.
I enjoy seeing unique films on the screen, not just blockbusters but works of art that challenge your perception of the world around you. HERIFF has a fantastic mix of animation and short film that I am especially looking forward to.
It is exciting to help out at a colourful festival about giving young women opportunities in film. I am learning so much, and everyone seems so nice and interesting, and I am looking forward to making new friends.
