Who are we?

HERIFF is an entirely youth-led film festival. Based in Kerry, Ireland, our creative and decision-making team is made up of young people aged 24 and below. We are all volunteers and HERIFF is a not for profit organisation to support young female and female-aligned filmmakers.

Founded in January 2020 by Ólámídé Ojegbenro in association with Killarney Young Filmmakers, HERIFF had its first year last October.

Our Mission

As Ireland’s only film festival celebrating young women in film, at HERIFF, we seek to provide a platform, a network and a support system to young women and women-aligned people in film across the world. Through our film festival, young women and women-aligned people can connect with each other, find opportunities in a male-dominated industry, and be empowered to embark on a career in film.

We want to recognise the high level of work being done by young women and woman-aligned people in the film industry. We value representation, inclusion, diversity and accessibility.

HERIFF 2021 will take place October 25th-31st.

Who can submit?

Any female or female-aligned filmmaker aged 10-25 from around the world. Films are eligible if young women or woman-aligned people are in two or more of the following positions: director, writer, producer, director of photography, editor, or composer.

See our FilmFreeway page for more details on how to submit!

Our Goal

We see HERIFF growing to become a staple in the Film Festival calendar both in Ireland and abroad. We want to make HERIFF sustainable, passing down the festival’s torch to the next generation of young people.

We want to empower young people to pursue their dreams in the film industry.
